Your Excellency, Prime Minister,
His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon,
Secretary-General of the United Nations,
Esteemed Ministers, Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Peace be upon you,
Today, we stand before the headquarters of the United Nations in our beloved country, on the eve of celebrating the eighteenth anniversary of Liberation Day. We stand, drawing lessons, realizing that without the mercy of the Almighty and the unity represented by this international institution, with its values and legitimacy affirmed by its resolutions, our gathering here on this blessed land would not have been possible. Praise be to God.
Reflecting on that era serves as a lesson, urging us to contemplate the pivotal period in the history of our esteemed organization. From the birth pains of the League of Nations after World War I to the establishment of the United Nations in the aftermath of World War II, the importance of preserving this organization as a platform for justice and a voice of reason becomes starkly evident. It stands as a bulwark against the horrors of genocide, racial extermination, senseless wars, and human rights violations in all their ethical dimensions and their ramifications on human consciousness, the environment, and its surroundings.
Your Excellency, Secretary-General,
Esteemed Brothers and Sisters,
These events collectively place the international community before its responsibilities. Kuwait, as an active member in this system, having witnessed invasion and flagrant violations of international law and humanitarian norms, as well as having stood in support of international legitimacy and UN resolutions, affirms that the international organization's ability to overcome past crises necessitates that we all take the initiative to develop its various mechanisms, refine its working methods, and update it to anticipate events and respond to them decisively, preserving its ability to act in accordance with its mandate to achieve international peace and security, and to uphold human dignity and rights wherever they may be.
Honored Audience,
The State of Kuwait takes pride in hosting this institution, the United Nations, which closely reflects the noble humanitarian purposes for which the organization was established. It is indeed my pleasure today to welcome His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to this house. Welcome to you and to the noble efforts of the offices stationed in this house and others of our esteemed organization, which will receive the support of the State of Kuwait for the greater good of humanity as a whole.
Peace be upon you.
